• Cables: Check for fraying or loose strands. Never touch cables under tension — they carry enormous force.

Test the Auto-Reverse Safety Feature

Place a 2x4 board flat on the floor in the door’s path. Close the door using the opener. The door should reverse immediately upon contacting the board. Test the Photo-Eye Sensors

Wave an object through the photo-eye beam (located about 6 inches off the floor on each side of the door) while the door is closing. The door should stop and reverse. Annually: Check Door Balance

Disconnect the opener by pulling the emergency release cord. Lift the door manually to about waist height and let go. A properly balanced door will stay in place, rising or falling no more than a couple of inches.

If the door falls or rises significantly, the springs need adjustment. Spring adjustment is dangerous and should only be done by a trained technician — the tension involved can cause serious injury.
